Mammoth Lakes has a variety of campgrounds, some adjacent to the lakes, others several miles back in the town of Mammoth Lakes. A great shuttle system connects the town and the lakes, making it easy to get about. Some campgrounds have reservations possible while others are first come, first served. All are very popular in the summer.

The Sherwin Creek Campground is several miles from the center of activity and has no shuttle service, and as a result is not as popular as the campgrounds closer to the lakes. Other campgrounds are available in the Inyo National Forest outside the Mammoth Lakes area such as along the June Lakes Loop to the north or more primitive sites can be found around Deadman and Glass Creeks.
